Spanish for Mérida Residents
Habla’s local Spanish classes in Merida are especially designed for non-Spanish speakers who have made a commitment to live in Mérida and are interested in learning about the Spanish language and culture.
The best way to learn Spanish is to practice consistently on an on-going basis. Our yearlong Spanish classes support your language growth over an extended period of time. We offer seven levels of Spanish from the very beginning to an advanced literature and discussion course. Classes meet in 90-minute blocks twice a week throughout the year (with the exception of July and August).
For course schedules, costs, or to schedule a time to see what course might be right for you please contact Habla’s Spanish director Marimar Patrón Vázquez at firstname.lastname@example.org.

What Mérida Residents say about learning Spanish at Habla?
A class at Habla feels more like an adventure than a lesson. Our teacher guides our class through exciting and challenging literature and makes the Spanish language and Mexican history and culture come alive for us. I am so interested in what we’re reading and discussing, so intent on expressing myself and understanding what others are saying that it is only later I realize how much vocabulary and grammar I’ve learned. I enthusiastically recommend Habla to students of any level.
– Pina Somsen, NYC and Mérida Resident
Habla is a wonderful school which makes learning easy. They have a fresh approach using the arts as a basis for teaching Spanish. The enthusiasm of the instructors makes it an experience to remember. Habla makes learning Spanish both fun and interesting.
– Erin Scott, USA, currently a Merida resident.
Learning Spanish at Habla is both informative and fun! I like the way that different modes of learning are used, including doing some art work, as well as speaking, reading, and writing. The teachers and staff are impressive in both their knowledge and enthusiasm! I would recommend taking classes at Habla to everyone.
– Kathleen White, from San Francisco, CA, originally; now living in Merida.
I have taken three courses of Spanish at Habla over the past two years. Two regular classes and one intensive. Never have I enjoyed studying a language so much. My instructors, Vivi and Marimar, both understand teaching the adult learner. Art and literature are a large component in the learning process. We read wonderful poems in Spanish and then attempt to write our own using the same format. I never thought I'd be able to write a poem in Spanish. Interestingly, they make the environment feel so safe that I don't feel inhibited to make the attempt or to read it to my fellow classmates. My only regret is that I only spend 4 months in Merida each year and lose so much of my speaking and comprehension skills in the ensuing 8 months. They always seem to be able to pick me up from wherever I am, though, and carry me forward. I've never enjoyed studying a language until I enrolled at Habla. I feel part of a community there.
