Spanish Immersion for Adults

Habla's Main Course.

Each week, students explore themes centered around the stories, art, pop culture, rhythms, flavors, and sociopolitical movements of Mexico and Latin America while developing the four core linguistic skills: speaking, writing, listening, and reading.

Spanish Immersion students have the opportunity to participate in engaging cultural experiences each week. During this time, students can practice their Spanish outside of the classroom and experience Mexican culture first-hand.

Our goal is for our students to finish each week feeling more confident in their Spanish skills and understanding of Mexican culture. We work to ensure our students find a way to connect to each theme so they can relate what they are studying to their own lives and worldview.

Over the years, we have found that learning Spanish becomes less intimidating and more exciting when students have a real connection to the topics they are learning.

Habla’s Spanish Immersion program is year-round with new courses starting each Monday, so you can schedule your program any time! If you aren’t able to attend a full week of classes, Habla offers tutoring to suit your schedule and specific needs.

Many adult students and families looking to learn Spanish in Mexico opt to study with us for three weeks or longer. We offer discounted prices for solo travelers and groups that stay at Habla for three or more weeks.

Please note: All our classes follow the same schedule to accommodate families and groups traveling together. Yes, we offer group pricing!

The Habla Method used in all our Spanish classes is a research-based, innovative, cross-cultural pedagogy that is used in classrooms worldwide. At our Spanish language school, you will feel challenged yet comfortable learning Spanish.

All our classes are facilitated in Spanish. We divide our students by language level and adjust groups during the week as necessary. Most importantly, we work with you to ensure the most enriching cultural and linguistic experience at Habla.

Language is rooted in its people and cultures. At Habla, you will experience the traditions, flavors, colors, rhythms, stories, and art of Mexico and Yucatan. You will leave our school feeling confident having meaningful conversations in Spanish and with a deeper understanding of our beautiful country.

What really sets Habla apart is the amazing, knowledgeable, and friendly community of teachers and staff. But don’t take it from us, read our former students’ testimonials to learn more about what the Habla Difference is all about.

Habla’s core principles enhance Spanish language learning:

Creative Space

Habla's immersion for kids.

The Creative Space is our Spanish Immersion program for kids ages 5-11 and teens ages 12-17. The Creative Space is a project-based and experiential learning environment where students learn Spanish through hands-on activities.

Each week, kids and teens have the option to participate in engaging cultural experiences. These opportunities help students practice their Spanish outside the classroom and learn about Mexican culture first-hand.

Kids, preteens, and teens learn Spanish by engaging in weekly projects that help them develop the four basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing while exploring Mexican culture. “Story” is a main component of our curriculum—the stories teachers and other students tell, imaginative storytelling, and the stories they read in authentic texts from Mexico and Latin America. The Creative Space is also an arts-integrated environment—students learn Spanish through movement, painting, drawing, writing, making films and photographs, and engaging with each other in a supportive community setting. The goal is always for students to progress in their Spanish level.

Special Course: Día de Muertos

Immerse in Mexico's most beautiful tradition.

At Habla we believe that connecting language with culture is at the heart of language learning. To honor this connection we have designed a course inspired by Día de Muertos or Janal Pixan (“Food for the Souls” in Mayan), one of the most important traditions in Mexico.

Students will engage in traditional cultural experiences such as Paseo de las animas, where we join the Yucatecan community in appreciating the altars for the dead, witnessing the colorful parade, and walking to the traditionally decorated cemetery downtown. We also take an excursion to Cholul, a small community just outside of Merida where students will participate in the traditional method for cooking the most popular Hanal Pixan dish: el pib. Students will prepare and cook their own pib in a pit in the ground, culminating in a mid-day feast.

During this week, students will study Spanish by learning about the cultural traditions, art, stories, and flavors that examine Mexico’s spiritual and playful relationship with death, while also exploring the memories of their ancestors and honoring loved ones who have left this world.

To culminate our Día de Muertos course, students will build an altar and share a written piece to honor our loved ones who have passed. Finally we all gather around the table to enjoy traditional food and drink and celebrate life.

Día de Muertos is offered once a year during the final week of October or the first of November. Space is limited for this program.
